Soft Scale

Cottony Cushion Scale originates from Australia and typically attacks woody plants like Pittosporum (seen Below) and Citrus. Like all scale species, the Cottony Cushion Scale weakens the plant by sucking sap from the branches and leaves. Similar to aphids, Cottony Cushion Scale excretes honeydew, which can lead to black sooty mold growth. Biological control is often used with Vedalia beetles; however, for easier chemical control, we recommend a systemic solution like BioAdvanced 12 Month Tree and Shrub Protect & Feed Concentrate. Simply mix the concentrate with water and apply it around the base of the affected tree or shrub. Clean leaves effected by sooty black mold a with dish soap and water solution.
